SGX Portfolio Update Dec-2020 and Year End Dividend Summary

Hyflux - Taking the hit this year, recognized full loss and move on

NikkoAM-STC Asia REIT - Recover to 1.1x level, green position. Will consider to add some if price falls below 1.00

SIA - Drop back at 4.2x level, phase 3 is here but the virus is still around, traveling still cannot resume to normal

OCBC - Lingering around 10.xx level, still in red position, will hold for long term investment

CapitaLand - Recover to 3.2x level, however still in red position, will hold for now

Genting Singapore - Hold steadily at 0.8x, will hold for now

ComfortDelGro - Drop back to 1.6x, will consider to add for recovery play

Singtel - Drop to 2.3x, digital bank license not pushing up this counter, will hold for now

NetLink NBN - Hold steadily at 0.96 - 0.97

iFAST - Take the opportunity to own a small position when it drop to 2.xx, current market price is 3.00, green position

HSTech ETF - Take opportunity to ride on HK tech stocks. So far so good, green position.

UOB - Take opportunity to own a small position of this bank, before pandemic, UOB share price is matching with DBS, now DBS already recover to 25.xx and UOB still sitting at 22.xx, I believe a lot of room to grow here

Watchlist - DBS, AEM, UMS, Venture for equity, REITs and ETFs for safe dividend play

Currently my portfolio is sitting at red -9%.

2020 dividends summary:

Total cash dividend received in 2020: $1,017, again 2x compared to 2019

Average dividends per month: $84.75, still a long long way to go

Total Portfolio Market Value: $30,132

* Dividends are recognized after payment

Realized profit from trading: $661

Total "passive income" in 2020 = $1,678

Capital gain / loss (to-date) = 2.17%

I made some purchases this month, funding from the sales of DBS and Fraser L&I Trust previously. These new counters are:

iFAST - for growth

HSTech ETF - for exposure to HKEx tech stocks

UOB - for dividend and recovery

In the beginning of the year, I target to increase my SGX portfolio size to $40k, unfortunately due to many unforeseen circumstances throughout the year, I failed to achieve the target. I also expect my portfolio to turn green or at least breakeven this year, and this did not happen either. Many opportunities arises when the market dip in 2nd quarter but I dare not to jump in due to the tight cashflow and the fear of losing my job. Bad timing!

My expectation for next year are:

1. Increase portfolio size to $40k (includes funding by SRS)

2. Increase dividend income to $2k

3. Breakeven with market price

4. Overall 5% gain

Year 2020 has been a tough year to me, I hope next year will treat me better.

Happy new year.

Acquisitions:

- Nil

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividend from Netlink & MIT

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

- Red @ -10%

Watch list:

- SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, MIT, MCT

2020 dividends summary:

Total cash dividend received in 2020: $1,306.90, 30% increment from last year.

Average dividends per month: $108.90, enough for electric bill, lol.

Total Portfolio Market Value: $51,760

* Dividends are recognized after payment

Realized profit from trading: $1,254.51

DBS Vicker rebate: $49.76

Total "passive income" in 2021 = $2,611

Total gain / loss (to-date) = 0.42%, very far from the 5% I expected at the beginning of the year

As mentioned last month, I decided to stop injecting fund to the market this month as I have achieved my target of portfolio size of $50k this year.

Let's review what is the reality VS my expectation at the beginning of the year.

1. At the beginning of the year, I expect to increase my portfolio size to $40k (includes funding by SRS), currently my portfolio size is over $50k, excluding SRS. Above expectation!

2. At the beginning of the year, I expect my dividend income this year will increase to $2k. This is not achieved as many counter I owned has suffered and cut dividends. I hope their business will get better next year so that they will pay nominal dividend in 2022.

3. At the beginning of the year, I expect my portfolio will breakeven with market price. I reality I am sitting on paper loss of 9%. My mistake is go in to HS Tech ETF and TG in the wrong timing! These 2 counters are the major contributors to the paper loss.

4. At the beginning of the year, I hope my overall gain will achieve 5%. In reality, my profit for the last 3.5 years are almost wiped out by the paper loss.

Year 2021 has not treated me better, but I am still consider myself lucky to have a job and keep the ball rolling.

My expectation for next year are:

1. Increase my portfolio size to $65k

2. Increase dividend to $2k

3. Breakeven with the market

4. Overall 3% gain

I will focus on building my portfolio in REITs and ETF next year in order to increase my dividend income.

I hope the market will recover next year and we all can huat big big.

Happy new year.

SGX Portfolio Update Dec-2022 and Year End Dividend Summary

Acquisitions:

- Bought CDG at near 52 weeks low with recycled capital from selling of SIA

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividend from MLT, MIT, ST Eng and SIA

- Sold partial of SIA @ 4% loss @ near 52 weeks high, not really agree with the Air India transaction, so decided to reduce my holding

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

DBS Vicker rebate: $17.67

Total "passive income" in 2022 = $3,023

Total gain / loss (to-date) = 0.00%, breakeven

Here are the comparisons with the targets that I set during beginning of the year:

1. At the beginning of the year, I expect to increase my portfolio size to $65k, in reality I only manage to build a portfolio with current market value of $63k

2. At the beginning of the year, I expect my dividend income this year will increase to $2k. I have received a total dividend of about $2.5k which is above my expectation.

3. At the beginning of the year, I expect my portfolio will breakeven with market value. In reality I am sitting on paper loss of 12%. The biggest paper loss are still HS Tech ETF and TG. I hope with relaxing of COVID rules can bring some benefits to the HS Tech ETF. However for TG I have loss my hope, I don't think it will recover within 5 years.

4. At the beginning of the year, I hope my overall gain will achieve 3%. In reality, my profit for the last 4.5 years are wiped out by the paper loss.

In summary, another bad year for me as an investor, except for the increase of dividends received compare to last year.

My expectation for next year are:

1. Increase my portfolio size to $77k

2. Increase dividend to $3k

3. Breakeven with the current market value

4. Overall 3% gain

I will continue to build my portfolio in REITs and Blue Chips next year in order to further increase my dividend income.

I will also consider to add more SG local banks when the price is right.

I am planning to put some cash in FD since the interest rate has gone up to 3%+.

Let's prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

3. Breakeven with the current market value

4. Overall 9% gain

The strategy will remained the same, increase position in dividend paying counters with strong business fundamentals. If the interest rates go down and have a negative impact to the SG local banks, I will add more to my portfolio.

I am also considering to increase my RSP plan on NikkoAM Asia Ex-Japan REITs ETF due to it attractive dividend yield.

I am also renewing my FD together with the interest. This is part of my rainy days fund.

I believed I am walking in the correct path to financial freedom.

SGX Portfolio Update Sep-2022

Acquisitions:

- SGX, NetLink, ST Engineering, Nanofilm, UOB, MLT

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividends from MIT, MLT, CDL, Venture and Genting Sing., total dividend received has crossed $2k mark for year 2022

Watch list:

- SG local banks, ST Eng., Wilmar, SGX, NetLink, Genting Singapore, MLT, MIT

Decided to start active again this month, taking the opportunity to rebalance my portfolio to focus on dividend generating counters. I am looking at dividend yield @ 4% and above for my entire portfolio.

I am also restarting my short to mid term trading aka itchy finger portfolio with the initial budget of $3k, I hope to make some coffee money from this fund.

I think the market will continue to stay low for the last quarter of 2022, I am prepared to add more on fundamentally strong companies and REITs when their share prices are near to their 52 weeks low.

SGX Portfolio Update Nov-2021

Acquisitions:

- Added Top Glove to average down

- Added SGX due to price touching 52 weeks low

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividend from NikkoAM STC Asia REIT ETF

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

- Red @ -9%

Watch list:

I decided to add more Top Glove to average down with the current low price. I understand there are few issues like new taxes and selling pressure from EPF Malaysia, but I still believed the business will be up and running in the foreseeable future.

And after I average down the price went up due to the Omicron.

I also added some SGX to my portfolio. I always have plan to add SGX in my portfolio so I see the current low price as a good opportunity for me to buy some. I will continue to build this counter when the price is right.

I have also applied for Daiwa REITs IPO but not successful.

I have started my new assignment this month, so far the environment is better than the previous company. However, I have to report to office everyday instead of working from home, this means extra expenses for petrol and car maintenance.

I believed I am done with injecting capital to the market for this year, unless Omicron is causing a mega sales in the market.

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

No action was taken to my SGX portfolio and no dividend was received during this month.

I have ended my employment this week and officially unemployed now. Fortunately I have secured a new assignment and will be starting in a week time.

In this bridging period I plan to catch up on my readings, I target to read 24 books this year but I only managed to complete 8 so far and it's already November now. I plan to at least finish 3 books during this bridging period.

With the active income from my new assignment, I can continue my investment journey and work towards my retirement goal.

SGX Portfolio Updates Oct-2023

Buy / Sell Actions:

- Bought MLT @ $1.48 during XD

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividend from SGX

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

- Red @ -16%

Watch list:

- SG local banks, MIT, MLT, SGX

Total dividend received to-date is $3,033, achieving my target of $3k dividend for this year.

Added some MLT during XD.

My overall portfolio is down by 4%, due to UOB and S-REITs are beaten down.

I am looking forward for the coming dividend payout by SGX, MLT, MIT and Netlink, to conclude the total amount of dividend received in year 2023.

Sunday, February 26, 2023

SGX Portfolio Updates Feb-2023

Acquisitions:

- Added MIT & SGX during XD

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Sold all my Genting Singapore @ 5% gain

- Received dividend from Asia Ex-Japan REITs ETF and SGX

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

- Red @ -11%

Watch list:

- SG local banks, Wilmar, SGX, NetLink, MIT, MLT, ST Engineering, Nanofilm

I have made 3 transactions this month, I think I am not going to achieve my target of maximum 8 trades for the year 2023.

Decided to let go Genting Singapore due to it not so attractive 3% dividend yield, I rather park the cash in risk free FD that give me 3.2% interest. Although there might be up size for GS, but I feel that the risk is not worthy for me. I will recycle this capital to SG local banks, MIT & MLT, in order to increase the dividend income per annum.

The other 2 transactions this month were buying SGX and MIT during their XD.

Many companies have declared their results and dividends this month, I am looking forward to receive around $1.2k in dividend from now until May-23. I am also expecting more (around $1.5k in total for 1H of 2023) as there are some counters in my holding hasn't announce their results. By year end, I am expecting a total dividend of $3k and above for year 2023.

SGX Portfolio Updates Nov-2022

Acquisitions:

- SGX

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividends from NikkoAM Asia Ex-Japan REIT ETF, SGX and Netlink

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

- Red @ -12%

Watch list:

- SG local banks, Wilmar, SGX, NetLink, MIT, MLT, Genting Sing, ST Engineering

Again added some SGX due to it low price during beginning of the month, and the counter recover to $9.xx by end of the month.

With the surprise dividend announcement from SIA, I am nearly hitting my dividend expectation of $2.5k for this year. However, I am still consider to sell my holding in SIA when the price is right.

REITs continue to beaten down by the high interest environment, some some of them are offering more than 6% dividend yield based on the current price. I will continue to DCA for MIT and MLT and continue to grow my war chest, just in case the market will crash by next year as many "experts" are saying.

I am also eyeing to average down Genting Sing and ST Engineering. Most probably will buy some STE when the counter XD next month.

SGX Portfolio Updates Feb-2024

Buy / Sell Actions:

- Added MLT during XD

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividends from CFA, SGX and CDLHT

- YTD dividend received: $65

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

- Red @ -13%

Watch list:

- SG local banks, MIT, MLT

OCBC and OUB results under market expectations, both counters are beaten down. These 2 counters are also my biggest holdings, thus my portfolio overall performance was down this month. Anyway the dividend yield is still attractive to me.

So far there are no red flag from the results of the companies in my portfolio, therefore I do not foresee a major change in my holdings as well as my investment strategy.

With the announced dividends, I expect to receive around $1.5k for 1H2024.

I am onboarding to a new company this month, hence I am very busy to study and pick up my new role. Bad news is moving forward I will have less time to focus on stock picking in the market, therefore I am changing my game plan from July onwards.

I have increase my RSP to boost my investment in STI ETF monthly and I will not add new counter to my portfolio. I will only increase my position when the counter in my portfolio is XD.

Let's see how busy my work will be in the next few months and I might change my game plan again.

SGX Portfolio Update Feb-2022

Acquisitions:

- Added MIT to average down

Dividend / Profit Taking / Cut Loss:

- Received dividend from NikkoAM STC Asia REITs ETF and SGX

Current Portfolio Capital Gain / Loss:

- Red @ -8%

Watch list:

Market was at the up trend before Russia started war with Ukraine. Now the market is very volatile and not sure where it will be heading. Good news is I am not in a hurry to sell and also having some capital to be deployed if the market crash down to COVID level 2 years ago! (in your dream...)

Many companies have announce their results this month and many companies have restore the dividend payout to pre-COVID level. I have got some decent dividends coming in in the coming months, delicious!

Meanwhile I will continue to add dividend stocks in my portfolio, as per the plan.

My total portfolio value is touching $50k this month, a small milestone but still far far away from the retirement goal.

Looking forward to the $100k milestone.

Some says this is catching the falling knife, let's see, only time will tell.

I am looking forward to the 4Q dividends that will make my entire year dividend received to $2.3k, slightly below my expectation but I am still happy with it.

Decided to sell all my SGX and lock in the profit at a near 52-weeks high, managed to make around 16% from the trade.

I will park the fund in my war chest, if SG local banks price went down when US announce the interest rate cut in September, I will deploy them to either OCBC or DBS.
